EU AI Act: banned AI practices and AI literacy
BuildAIPolicy Research · Added 27 October 2026 · Last checked 27 October 2026
What it is
Certain AI practices, such as manipulative techniques and some uses of biometric categorisation, have been banned since 2 February 2025. Providers and deployers of AI systems must also take measures to support AI literacy among their staff (Article 4, as amended by the 2026 Digital Omnibus).
Who it affects
Organisations that provide or use AI systems in the EU, including businesses outside the EU whose AI is used there.
What to consider
- Check none of your AI uses fall under the banned practices.
- Give staff who use AI practical training suited to their role, and keep a record of it.
