Texas Responsible Artificial Intelligence Governance Act (TRAIGA)

BuildAIPolicy Research · Added 27 October 2026 · Last checked 27 October 2026

What it is

TRAIGA bans certain uses of AI by anyone, such as AI intended to encourage self-harm or crime, or to unlawfully discriminate. Government agencies must tell people when they interact with AI, and health care providers must disclose AI use in treatment. The Texas Attorney General enforces it; there's no private right of action.

Who it affects

Organisations that develop or use AI in Texas, with extra duties for government agencies and health care providers.

What to consider

  • Check your AI uses against the prohibited purposes.
  • Health care providers: tell patients when AI is used in their treatment.
