Do Colorado's and California's automated decision rules apply to you?

From January 1, 2027, Colorado and California both regulate the use of AI and other automated tools in significant decisions about people, such as hiring, lending and housing. Answer a few questions to see whether each is likely to apply to you.

This checker gives a general indication from your answers. It isn't legal advice and can't account for every situation. Read about both rules.

  1. 1. Do you do business in Colorado and make decisions about people there?

People includes customers, applicants and employees, such as Colorado residents applying for a job with you.

  2. 2. Is your business covered by the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)?

Broadly, for-profit businesses that do business in California and have annual gross revenue above about US$26.6 million (adjusted for inflation), buy, sell or share the personal information of 100,000 or more California residents, or make at least half their revenue from selling or sharing personal information. Check the current thresholds if you're near them.
